Studies show that 40-60% of adults who experience anxiety also experience ADHD symptoms

ADHD Therapy in Colorado

Do you find it difficult to motivate yourself, adjust to change, problem-solve, or focus your attention? It can feel overwhelming to be constantly pulled in multiple directions by both your environment and your own thoughts. Not only can this impact your ability to feel successful at work or school, but it can also affect your relationships, emotions, and confidence.

While it’s tempting to ask, “What is wrong with me?!” it’s important to know that not every brain works the same way. Understanding how your mind and nervous system operate, and putting the right tools and strategies in place, can make a profound difference in your overall well-being.

At Rooted Wellness Counseling, ADHD therapy is tailored to your unique neurodiverse brain and nervous system. Together, we’ll address where you feel stuck, strengthen self-awareness and self-trust, and create practical strategies so you can manage symptoms, improve focus, and regain confidence — helping you get back to living in alignment with your strengths.

A few things we know:

Struggling with planning, follow-through, and focus has nothing to do with your intelligence and it has everything to do with regulating your attention

People who identify as neurodiverse often have a history of "masking" symptoms, which can lead to lower self-esteem, anxiety, and depression

Behavioral tools -such as relaxation + regulation techniques- can help us improve our capacity to navigate stress before feeling overwhelmed

What are Executive Functioning Skills

Executive functioning skills are a set of mental skills that help with managing time, staying organized, regulating emotions, and controlling impulses. Think of them as the brain’s management system, guiding how we plan, prioritize, and execute tasks. Executive functioning skills, include:

  • Response Inhibition

  • Working Memory

  • Emotional Control

  • Task Initiation

  • Sustained Attention

  • Planning/Prioritization

  • Organization

  • Time Management

  • Flexibility

  • Metacognition

  • Goal-Directed Persistence

  • Stress tolerance

ADHD + Executive Functioning

Individuals with ADHD have brains that are wired for creativity, curiosity, and quick thinking, but they can face challenges with executive functions—such as planning, organization, and emotional regulation—because their minds naturally seek novelty and stimulation. This can make it harder to stay focused, manage time, or follow through on tasks that don’t feel engaging, leading to frustration, overwhelm, and even damage to self-trust or self-esteem.

If you can relate to these difficulties, it is important to understand that they aren’t personal failures but reflections of a unique neurobiology that processes the world differently. With the right tools -like routines, external reminders, self-compassion, and mindfulness strategies- you can harness your strengths and build systems that work better for your brain! I complete the Executive Skills Questionnaire (ESQ) for any clients interested in learning more about which executive functions they both succeed and struggle with. This helps us create a roadmap to you better understanding and feeling in control of your brain.

ADHD Therapy

You know better than anyone what it’s like to live and work with your brain, and your insight into when you feel stuck or overwhelmed is invaluable. Using that self-knowledge alongside Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), insights from the Executive Skills Questionnaire (ESQ), and somatic/nervous system-informed approaches, I help clients identify patterns in their environment, thoughts, and behaviors that support or hinder success. Together, we build strategies to strengthen executive functioning, develop tools for self-regulation, and learn how to notice and calm nervous system activation — helping you respond to challenges from a place of grounded focus and self-trust. I’ve completed extensive ADHD-specific training to ensure I’m offering the most current and effective care, and my ongoing learning means I can provide the specialist support you deserve.

Clients navigating ADHD often benefit from increased structure, healthy outlets for built-up stress or energy, and addressing how dysregulation impacts self-esteem. Through somatic awareness and polyvagal-informed strategies, we help your nervous system settle so you can approach tasks and relationships with more clarity, confidence, and embodied focus. You can read more about my work with self-esteem here.

While I do not prescribe medication, I am happy to provide psychiatry referrals or collaborate with your prescriber if medication is something you’re considering.
